A Health Human Resources Strategy to Serve Canadian Children & Youth

The development of a Health Human Resource (HHR) Strategy has been identified by the Coalition as a critical priority in the area of child and youth health and one where the combined efforts and expertise of the individual members could have significant influence. CCYHC is committed to exploring HHR resource issues across interdisciplinary health professions and to the promotion of sustained excellence in education and training to ensure a workforce prepared to meet the health needs of children and youth across the spectrum of promotion, prevention and care. The Coalition has established the Child & Youth Health Human Resources Working Group to review the state of health human resources in the child/youth sector and identify specific opportunities and challenges which are best addressed by a strategic Coalition initiative in this area.

Following the 2008 CCYHC Symposium which focused on this topic, the working group identified two areas of particular interest: 1)  the exploration of innovative models of care towards towards identifying novel paradigms to guide HHR planning within the child and youth sector; and, 2) a collaboration with the Canadian Institute of Health Information to facilitate better data collection related to child and youth health human resources. Work on these initiatives is now in the early stages. Further information will be posted here as the projects develop.
